Product Details

This is a open edition giclee print produced from the original pastel drawing drawn by Natalie Mascall, entitled 'The Pallas Gaze' © I drew this from my own photo reference. For many years I have always loved drawing close ups of any cat species whether it be wild, big or small, especially drawing their eyes.

This is a Pallas's cat and they have a lot of character! Unlike other cats, the pupils of Pallas' cats contract into small circles rather than vertical slits.Their latin name is Otocolobus manul, also called manul, they are a small wildcat known for its unusual, and adorable, look: a flattened and rounded face, stocky build, and super fluffiness make it appear stout and plush. They have a broad, but fragmented distribution in the grasslands and montane steppes of Central Asia. A German naturalist Peter Pallas originally classified the cat as Felis manul in 1776. The word 'manul' has its roots in the Mongolian language. Its current scientific name, Otocolobus, comes from the Greek language and can be translated to 'ugly-eared.' When Pallas first described the cat, he erroneously suggested it was the ancestor of the domestic Persian breed because of its long fur, stout build, and flattened face. I love these wild cats and I have been drawing this breed for many years now as I do love the wild cats especially as even though all roughly size of our domestic cat, they all vary so much in markings and their characteristics which some are so distinctive, like the pallas's cat which can make it easier to identify but in the wild wild cats so rare to see.

This image 'The Pallas Gaze' is available in one size only. With the mountboard on top, the sizes are overall larger than the A size of the image. This image is double-mounted ready to be framed. The print is hand signed and titled on the print on the white border around the image and is mounted and cellophaned. The image size is H15.7cm x 23.3cm. The approx size of the outside edge of the mountboard is H28cm by 35.5cm.

I have framed one of these sized prints, image included for you to see. You may collect from my studio or can be delivered. To purchase the un-framed or framed, they are both in the options. The frame is a smart 2cm black frame which has a thin silver edge down each side, you can see this frame in the photos. The outside edge is H31.1cm x 38.7cm.
