This #caturdayart takes you to the 'wild side' of felines; the fastest land animal, reaching speeds of 93 to 104km/h, the beautiful cheetah with her cubs.
This was a wonderful commission as not only did I get to use my photo reference I took in Kenya; but was lovely that the clients wanted to use my photo reference and together we collaborated to bring this piece to life using various images and ideas.
Lots of intricate fine details throughout this one.

This #whiskerwednesday is a special post, remeniscing a #specialmoment as this drawing I drew from my own photo reference in the wild! This was our first safari in 2007 in Nakuru, lion hill lodge in Kenya, such beautiful place on a hill.
As many of you know, I have a huge soft spot for all cats, so to see a leopard on our first safari we were super lucky. I am amazed I had any photos to draw from due to the excitement lol I was dreading camera shake afterwards, but not whilst in the moment. We were very lucky to get some time with her, taking it all in my eyes not only by lens. I was in awe, captivated, senses were hightened, the sounds, the colours, her lil sounds; I was literally consumed by her presence, and when we locked eyes, even for a moment, it was like time had slowed up, especially to take in this moment that would stay with me forever.
I was over the moon when I found out this original I title 'Chui' Swahili for African Leopard, was a finalist, coming runner up in 'Animals in their Environment' category in the BBC Wildlife Artist of the year 2010. Even more blown away as my other entry, Tigers at Play, won the overall competition title and being published in the #bbcwildlifemagazine! What a year that was!

Today's #throwbackart is monkeys; featuring a couple in #acrylic #charcoal and #pastel
The #vervetmonkey was #commissionedartwork in acrylic. These monkeys are #cheekymonkeys, also known as the #blueballedmonkey . One definitely has to have whits about yourself when these are around.
The #blackandwhitecolobusmonkey is also acrylic which I painted from my own photo reference. Absolutely adore these.
The #charcoalsketch of a young #olivebaboon was a donation for heart research #anonartproject which I drew from my time in Tanzania, which was amazing.
The last one is a print from my pastel drawing of a young female #blackhowlermonkey the females are yellow. I was so happy to get permission to draw them incredible glassey eyes from a friends photo reference Mandy Gothorp.

Today's #throwback is of a #labrador #commissionartwork to celebrate #seeingeyeguidedoganniversary today in the US.
Being in the UK I have been sponsoring @guidedogsuk pups proudly since 2004.
I just find dogs incredible and so invaluable, especially their abilities that change peoples lives such as dogs who act as their owners eyes; creating a special bond, trust and companionship.
Seeing-eye dogs/guide dogs as we call them go through extensive training to be able to safely traverse the environment and all of its hazards for their person and they are definitely worthy and deserve recongnition for their devotion to keep their person safe and enable them to operate fully functionable.
Here's to all the incredible working dogs out there having positive impacts on peoples lifes and wildlife.

This year it is all about Giraffes, which I was thrilled to hear as they're getting a spotlight on them as they really do need our help! Their populations have declined significantly, around 30% since 1980, with some subspecies critically endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, illegal wildlife trade, disease and human conflict, requiring urgent international efforts to protect them. Again this is amazing for giraffes, and also for everyone who collects these beautiful books; bringing together incredible photographers from around the world all in aid to raise invaluable funds for conservation.

Today is their day celebrating a unique South American wild cat, the Geoffroy's Cat, named after the 19th Century French naturalist Geoffroy St. Hilaire. A day to raise awareness about its traits, habitat, and their ecological importance. Definitely a beautiful, fascinating cat, yet a lesser-known wild feline so it is always great for these small mainly nocturnal wild cats to get the spotlight increasing awareness and knowledge of them.

Happy #felinefriday! Today, I'm sharing a throwback to a commission of a charismatic African lion from Linton Zoo, Zuri; born at West Midlands Safari Park in 2006, Zuri was hand-reared after being rejected by his mother. He became a very popular resident at Linton, growing into a confident, lively, curious and one very handsome lion, famous for his antics, fondness to play and explore his surroundings. With his partner Safina, they had great success becoming parents.
You can probably already guess that I was thrilled to have had the opportunity to draw him, having fallen in love with his spirit during my visits.
Over the years we have supported Linton Zoo's conservation efforts with their stamp collecting scheme which raises funds for their conservation projects and animal care initiatives. Today's #throwbackart is of a beautiful Puma I drew in pastel. I often get asked if I recall each piece I create, and I do - every single one holds a memory, like a song or scent that transports me back to a moment in time. Afterall, each creation carries a little piece of me with it.
This one not only reminds me how deeply connected to the subjects I draw but also takes me right back to the very moment I was infront of her taking the photo reference to which I drew from; I was completely captivated by her beauty, especially those incredible eyes.

Something a bit different this #tigertuesday as I have just found that today is also #printinginkday a day celebrated annually on the closest Tuesday to January the 16th since 1977. It is a day set for all as a remember one of our most essential office tools and if interested, one can find out more about what inks are made of, where they come from, and what they are used for.
Back in the day there were no printers or ball pens, so instead, materials such as coloured vegetables, blood, fish, earth, minerals, amongst others were used, imagine that!
Nowadays ink is generally a colorant, such as a pigment or dye used to deliver colour to a surface like paper.
I use archival inks with my fine art/giclee prints in my large format printer; a high-quality, permanent ink formulated for long-term preservation, resisting fading, water, and chemical breakdown, making them ideal for art, and important documents for an example that need to last for decades without significant colour loss or smudging. Unlike standard dye inks, archival inks use fine particles of pigment.
Even my paper is archival being acid free/ph neutral. The quality really does show and tried and tested to last.

I recently printed clients photos on to my fine art paper, loosing the reflection of normal printing paper, also making a couple of corrections, they looked smart, client was happy.

I always start my drawings off by drawing the eyes first, as for me, eyes are windows to the soul, the focal point, and brings the artwork to life. Once I am happy with the eyes, I can then carry on with the drawing/painting.

This is 'Amble...' an acrylic painting of couple heavy horses/Shire horses which I painted from my own photo reference. I love this breed of horse.
Sadly, Shire horses are an endangered species/an at risk breed due to mechanization.
I still find it incredible that horses were extensively used for centuries to pull boats and barges along canals, especially in Britain during the Industrial Revolution as it was far more efficient for moving heavy goods than road transport was, with one horse pulling up to 30 tons on water compared to just a ton on land.
We are so fortunate to have organisations like the #rarebreedsurvivaltrust actively working to conserve them, but the numbers remain low, with fear that without this help they could become extinct.

I have framed this with Artglass, AR70; a specialist glass that I have used for many years now. This glass protects and preserves the artwork due to its UV protection and the AR stands for Anti-reflect which I absolutely love as it gives the impression like there is no glass, like you can touch the artwork, a very cool feature.
There are three grades, this one is 70, which means 70% UV protection.
I have always used the highest grade of materials and acid free/ph neutral materials across the board again, for many years now, prints and originals.

It's #internationalcheetahday today! I'm celebrating the world's fastest cat, estimated speed of around 80 - 130 km/h, the stunning cheetah, by sharing a few of my cheetah prints, printed from the original pastel drawings.
Did you know that a cheetahs heart, lungs and nasal passage are all enlarged to support their high-speed running. Unlike other big cats, cheetahs cannot roar but instead make the cutest variety of chirps, awesome purrs and high-pitched calls. A cheetahs spots are as unique as our human finger prints.
This day was established in 2010 by the @ccfcheetah to raise awareness about the dwindling populations and shrinking habitats of the fastest land animal on Earth. The cheetah is one of the most endangered big cats in the world which are sadly severly fragmented in the wild.

To mark #worldorangutanday today, I'm sharing a few of my orangutan drawings. Today is dedicated to raising awareness about the threats they face, such as habitat loss and deforestation for palm oil plantations, and to support their conservation. I make a conscious effort to avoid products containing palm oil, opting for sustainable alternatives instead. Days like today highlight the importance of protecting these critically endangered, intelligent, and beautiful creatures, which play a vital role in maintaining rainforest health through seed dispersal and forest regeneration. As an umbrella species, conserving orangutans also protects other wildlife sharing their habitat. Native to Borneo and Sumatra, orangutans are unique and fascinating primates. There are various charities dedicated to their support and have various ways we can help and join their cause. Seeing them in their natural habitat is a bucket list dream of mine. I find them captivating, much like gorillas, and adore watching them interact with their young.
There are a couple of Rajang prints left where a % of each sales goes to the #orangutanfoundation which derived from #colchesterzoo commissioning me to draw a commemorative piece to celebrate his 50th birthday.

Apologies very late in the day, but I have just seen that #globalcatday and #nationalferalcatday are falling on the same day being celebrated in the US today; a day to remind us that educating, engaging, and empowering people to defend and protect cats, and the importance of raising awareness surrounding the non-lethal feline programs across the country. More than any other shelter animal, cats and kittens face euthanasia at a much higher rate. However, programs such as trap, neuter, and release (TNR) are making it possible for cats to live full and healthy lives in their neighbourhoods.

Life's a rollercoaster and I'm screaming with excitement! I'm in my element with the #artistlife, working on commissions and other projects keeping me on my toes. Commissions are one of my faves - they're so personal and emotional, bringing stories and memories to life through art.
Another part which I feel is invaluable, especially being an artist, is #supportcharities and being a huge supporter of @thebigcatsanctuaryuk over many years now, I, like many others fall in love with every one of their #cats and I just had to fit this one in alongside other work.

Today is #internationalprimateday so I had to celebrate them with a couple of my drawings of #primates plus I love them so much, it would be rude not to.
Chimpanzees being our closest biological relative, share around 99% of our DNA, and the bonobos sharing about 98.7% of their DNA with us, then the #orangutan shares 96.4% of their DNA with humans too. I find them so fascinating, expressive and endearing.
Such a wonderful group to draw, with some poses so relatable, plus lots of mischievousness, especially with the youngsters!
Primates are so important as they directly contribute to regenerate tropical forest and maintain a healthy ecosystem.
The order Primates is one of the most species-rich groups of mammals, third only to bats and rodents. Over 500 species belongs to the primate order including lemurs, tarsiers, monkeys, and apes!
